e-ISSN : 2807-1328

p-ISSN : 2775-2399

DOI : https://doi.org/10.57079/lux
id-ID[email protected] (Tabita Melania)[email protected] (Iswadi Prayidno)Fri, 01 Aug 2025 15:35:31 +0700OJS 3.3.0.7http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/rss60Liturgi

This study examines the role of liturgy in fostering hope and liberation within the Catholic faith, inspired by Romano Guardini’s The Spirit of the Liturgy. Liturgy is often misunderstood in two extremes: as rigid rules that restrict spiritual freedom or as a celebration devoid of structure. This research aims to explore liturgy as a "sacred play" that harmonizes order and freedom, seriousness and joy, structure and spiritual expression. The study employs a qualitative approach with a literature review method, analyzing primary theological texts, including Guardini’s work, official Church documents, and contemporary scholarly discussions on liturgical theology. Data collection involves textual analysis of liturgical norms, theological interpretations, and historical developments in liturgical praxis. The study applies a categorical framework—Necessary and Unnecessary, Proper and Improper, Fitting and Unfitting—to evaluate how liturgy shapes spiritual liberation and eschatological hope. Findings reveal that true liturgical freedom is not the absence of rules but the structured encounter with God that liberates believers from worldly constraints. The study highlights the eschatological dimension of the liturgy, wherein each Eucharistic celebration not only commemorates past salvation but also anticipates the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom. Pastoral implications emphasize the need for proper liturgical education, the role of clergy and lay ministers in preserving the sacredness of the celebration, and the importance of maintaining liturgical beauty and reverence to deepen the faithful’s spiritual experience. The study concludes that a richer understanding of liturgy allows believers to participate in the celebration not as a mere obligation but as a transformative encounter with God, leading to authentic hope and liberation in Christ.
Yoseph Indra Kusuma

Proclaimed by Pope Francis through the Bull Spes Non Confundit, the Jubilee Year 2025 adopts the theme Pilgrims of Hope, offering the universal Church a unique opportunity to renew spiritual life and reaffirm the social and missionary dimensions of Christian faith. This article examines the pastoral and spiritual significance of the Jubilee, particularly in the context of Christian family life, drawing upon the insights of Julie Hanlon Rubio and the teachings of Pope Francis. The approach taken views the family as a distinctive locus theologicus , where the spirituality of the Jubilee manifests in daily living—not merely as devotional expression but as a concrete form of social participation and faith witness.

The article elaborates on six key characteristics of the Jubilee Year—pilgrimage, the holy door, reconciliation, prayer, profession of faith, and acts of charity—and integrates them into the lived experience of Christian families. Rubio’s perspective highlights family faith practices as ethical means of shaping spiritual habitus, fostering spiritual growth, interpersonal relationships, and social engagement. Simultaneously, Pope Francis’s vision of synodality and his call for a “Church that goes forth” inspire families to become missionary communities that embody and transmit faith, hope, and love to others. Accordingly, the Jubilee Year is understood not merely as a liturgical celebration, but as a dynamic process of pastoral renewal. It positions the family as both subject of evangelization and witness to divine mercy.
Stevanus Devi Christiawan

Each individual in every age lives with a perpetual hope for the realization of justice or iustitia in this world, because justice is closely related to relations between humans. The purpose of the law itself is to realize the hope for justice so that humans can live in brotherhood with harmony. However, the application of rigid laws may cause injustice. This article attempts to deepen the understanding of justice as a virtue supported by other virtues: misericordia, caritas, aequitas and veritas. The balancing elements and pointers towards true justice, as the hope of all humans, especially in this Jubilee Year.
Maria Veronica Endah Wulandari

Jubilee year and mission have a closely interwind relationship. The very core of mission is God’s salvific plan which is His desires to restore humanity in His likeness. To accomplish this mission, God sent prophets to proclaim His word; the Israelites to bring blessings to all nations, and ultimately, His only son to redeem the world. God has used many ways to save humanity. One of these is noted in Spes non Confundit, the Bull of Indiction by Pope Francis, No. 10 “This is an ancient appeal, one drawn from the word of God, whose wisdom remains ever timely. It calls for acts of clemency and liberation that enable new beginnings: “You shall hallow the fiftieth year, and you shall proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants” (Lev 25:10) This Mosaic law, was later echoed by the Prophet of Isaiah, “The Lord has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour” (Is 61:1-2). This passage from Isaiah was then proclaimed by Jesus at the beginning of His ministry. From this exploration, one can say that mission is the restoration of humanity to God’s likeness through the proclamation of freedom for captives, recovery of sight for the blind, and liberation for the oppressed-just as in the jubilee year.
Teresa Lina Sriwahyuni

The Jubilee Year 2025, proclaimed by Pope Francis, carries the theme Spes Non Confundit, inspired by Romans 5:5. This paper examines the pastoral letter of the Diocese of Surabaya as a guide for Catholics in embracing the Jubilee’s spirit. The letter highlights repentance, mercy, and forgiveness as key to becoming a Jubilee Person. Through biblical, historical, juridical, and practical perspectives, this study explores how the Jubilee fosters faith renewal and Christian commitment. The paper discusses the biblical roots of the Jubilee in Leviticus 25 and its fulfillment in Christ’s proclamation of the Year of the Lord’s Favor (Luke 4:16-21). It also traces the Jubilee’s history in the Catholic Church, from its first proclamation in 1300 to its evolving theological and pastoral role. The juridical aspects of indulgences, their link to the Jubilee, and their regulation in canon law are also examined. The pastoral letter emphasizes the Jubilee’s practical aspects, including pilgrimage, sacramental reconciliation, Eucharistic participation, and prayer for the Pope’s intentions. It also promotes ecological conversion, urging Catholics to care for creation as an act of faith. Ultimately, becoming a Jubilee Person means living in faith through acts of mercy, reconciliation, and hope. The pastoral letter calls Catholics in the Diocese of Surabaya to embody these values by deepening their spiritual life, practicing justice, and showing compassion in daily actions, making the Jubilee a true moment of renewal and transformation.
Antonius Yanuardi Hendro Wibowo
